Year 1

'Creating Lifelong Learning Opportunities for Everyone'

Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 is an exciting and important year where children begin their transition from the play-based learning of the Early Years into more structured classroom learning. We carefully support this change by maintaining a nurturing environment while introducing new routines, expectations and learning opportunities.

Our focus is on developing strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics through practical, engaging and hands-on activities. Children are encouraged to explore, ask questions and develop confidence in their abilities, while learning how to work more independently.

We place a strong emphasis on building positive relationships, developing communication skills and supporting children’s emotional well-being. Clear routines, consistent expectations and lots of encouragement help children to feel safe, happy and ready to learn.

Year 1 is a caring, inclusive and supportive environment where children are helped to grow in confidence, independence and enthusiasm for learning.
